Happy 121st Philippine Independence Day!

121st Philippine Independence Day
On this day in 1898, the Philippines, an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands in the western Pacific Ocean named after Spanish King Philip II, finally claimed its freedom after over 300 years of colonial rule from Spain.
The Philippine flag itself is a powerful symbol of the independence movement, with each of its colors carrying a significant meaning: blue represents truth and justice, red symbolizes patriotism, and white stands for equality. The three stars at the corner represent the three main regions of the Philippines – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Meanwhile, the eight rays of the sun stand for the first eight provinces that went into battle against Spain.
As we celebrate Philippine Independence Day, it is virtually impossible not to be reminded of Jose Rizal. It was his literary works, particularly “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo,” that awakened the national and political consciousness of our people. He was the architect and personification of Filipino aspirations and has been universally recognized as the greatest Filipino who ever lived.

One of the most significant dates in the Philippine’s history is Independence Day because it marks the nation’s independence from the Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. Filipinos celebrate it annually on June 12. (timeanddate.com/holidays/philippines/independence-day)
